I think it is super amazing how proud I can be of my kids when they finally overcome their fear of something and try something new. Miya is eight and just learned to ride a bike a few weeks ago. She kept saying she never wanted to learn how to ride a bike because it wouldn't be fun. Phil and I both knew she was just afraid that she would get hurt or that she might look silly if she couldn't do it. Miya is one of those kids that loves things she is good at, but doesn't like trying something she might not be the best at. Hey, I'm a pretty competitive person so I can understand this fear of looking silly. She has watched Cannon ride his bike for the past year and wanted nothing to do with it.
Then we were at the skate park a few weeks ago and Phil asked if she wanted to try riding the bike...she said no. We then made her just sit on the bike and go down the ramp lightly dragging her feet and balancing. Within minutes she was riding a bike with a huge smile on her face. She now loves riding a bike and is outside most days riding up and down our drive-way. Cannon cheers her on and they have become great riding buddies. I love to see my kids doing something new and being so happy when they realize that they can learn new things.

Cannon's Beach
We had a great time hanging out at Cannon beach in the sunshine. We flew kites, we ate, we laughed, we dug, we splashed and we soaked up the sun. Cannon just loved that it was HIS beach and that we all got to enjoy the day with him there.
Oregon Stops
Lyla loved all the little flowers at all the stops we made along the way.
The Oregon coast has the best rocks out at sea.
We did spend a lot of time in the car...waiting for Kerrie capturing amazing shots.
The kids Sunday morning on our walk over to the farmers market in Hillsboro.
I just love that this totally captures Jamie and how cold the coast is almost any time of year and how gangster Jason really is.
The last stop of the day and look how we are all gearing up to play in the sand in coats and blankets. Needless to say, this stop didn't last very long. Then on the way back to Hillsboro we followed the navigational system in the car and took a crazy logging road that for a while was gravel. Lyla almost threw-up, but luckily we got her out of the car and her stomach settled down. It was a great day and the kids loved a slumber party with friends. 14 people in 2 rooms at the hotel.
On the way back home we stopped at an old war fort and let the kids run around. It was super cool and the kids loved it until they started firing guns...then Lyla was ready to go.
You can see the building built into the hillside behind Phil and the water just passed that.
We stopped at a pizza place for dinner after the drive home up the coast. They also had a tanning bed in the pizza place for all those people that traveled to the coast and didn't see the sun. Luckily we got plenty of sunshine the first few days of the trip.

Phil had to go down to Portland for work and we were meeting up with friends for Memorial Day weekend for a trip to the coast so we took the kids out of school for a few days to hang out. Phil worked and we stayed at the hotel and swam, ate, watched movies and hung out at Target across the street for lunch. The kids LOVE swimming and had a great time flipping through the channels on the tv since they never get to do that at home.
