Summer

So Lyla was in the bathroom the other day and the toilet had flushed and she still wasn't coming out. I went and slowly opened the door to find her with scissors in hand and hair all over the floor. So she went from this to this

I really do love her new hair cut and she looks even more like Miya with all her blond hair gone. I called Mel just after she had cut her hair and we went out on Friday to have lunch with Todd and Mel and get Lyla's hair fixed. I love those guys so much and it was fantastic to see them after it has been way too long.

We went to play group with the ward on Tuesday at Sunnyside Beach and the kids had a fantastic time. The tide was the lowest it was going to be all year. We saw starfish, a sunfish, a spider crab, large regular crab, jellyfish and a hermit crab. The sun was out and we loved seeing friends we had missed while on vacation in Driggs.

Summer Vacation

So we made it back from our family vacation to Driggs. Sunday was filled with lots of driving and by the end we had tears and crying from tired bums. I only have a few pictures on my camera from the trip, but there will be more to follow once Nicki sends them to me. We had a great time together for two weeks and I am very much looking forward to Ashlee coming in August and mom and dad moving her here. Cannon and Lyla watching the parade and getting ready to run down candy. Cannon figured out the "box-out" technique and could sit on 5 pieces while gathering the other two with his hands. He was pretty good about sharing with the little girls, but he loved the thrill of the chase.

Lyla was getting ready for the start of the parade. Nothing like a small town parade that has to start with ambulance and fire engine's sirens going.

Miya got to be in the parade because she went to dance class with Lily. She was super excited to ride on the float and pose.

We got to celebrate Cannon's 6th birthday while we were at grandma's house. He loved being able to celebrate with cousins and shoot water balloons at Uncle Michael on the trampoline and share the candy from the pinata with his cousins.

Time was filled with swimming, eating, dancing, hiking, playing at the park, golfing, watching movies, jumping on the trampoline and just hanging out. We were able to stay in a condo with Ashlee and Micheal so we had lots of room for sleeping, but most of the time we wanted to be hanging out with everyone. 34 people in one house is pretty crazy, but we had a great time. We now have 6 nieces that are old enough to babysit, and were super excited about doing it, so the adults got a bunch of nights out. Time always goes by to quickly, but we are trying to get back into the swing of things around here. We got the lawn mowed yesterday and made it through the mail, email, phone messages and today we are heading off to play group.

Events

We have been working on the cabin and I have found little time for updating this blog, but I thought I should at least write about Phil since we just celebrated his 35th birthday and Father's Day on Sunday. He really is the world's best husband and father and we couldn't ask for more. He was the speaker at JFY on Saturday night and did a fantastic job. He was a substitute teacher for seminary so a few of the students knew him and told him to keep his talk nice and short so they would have more time to dance. He just laughed and said he felt the same about those things when he was their age.
So enough about Phil, I was talking to Stephanie the other day and she had gone to her doctor. They were talking about weight and our society and he mentioned that it is not genetics with Asians and that it is their diet that keeps them thin and healthy. He told her about his "chubby Asian test" which is, if you stand in front of the mirror naked and you think "I look like a chubby Asian" you should lose weight. I have laughed a lot about this since talking to her and then became a little obsessed with this idea. Then I talked to Ashlee and she laughed because she is married to Michael, who loves meat and white rice and up until a year ago almost NEVER worked out and still didn't fit the "chubby Asian" test. Phil worked for a Japanese company when we first got married and I have seen very few "chubby Asians". Standing in front of the mirror I think now...I would have to chop off half my body to not be a "chubby Asian". They don't come in broad sizes. I guess I just have to imagine a sumo wrestler as a "chubby Asian" and then it seems most of us don't have to worry about our weight.

Concert

I decided that I should finally write about going to the Greg Laswell concert in Ballard for Mother's Day. I was driving in the car and heard on the radio that Greg would be at the Tractor Tavern so I quickly drove home and purchased tickets for Phil and I for my Mother's Day surprise. I called the babysitter and started getting so excited to be going up to Seattle for a date night and seriously (that is for Ashlee) I have listened to his CD a MILLION times and have been LOVING him lately.
We got up there early so we could walk around Ballard. We miss the coolness of Seattle and just walking around shops and streets and watching people. We got some ice cream from the specialty homemade ice cream truck and then headed to the tavern. Two people were opening for Greg and yes they were horrible, oh and they both played for 50 min. By the time Greg started playing it was almost midnight. No one else seemed to care that it was that late, but I am pretty sure we were the only ones there with kids and needing to get a babysitter back before the pass wasn't good for getting back on Post. Yes, I didn't even come close to getting her back in time. It was almost 2:00 by the time I got her home, but once Greg started playing it was so hard to leave. He was AWESOME. His voice is one of those that is just as good, if not better live.
We hung out with some couples we meet and they were the same age, but it was funny that we have 3 children at home and they were all just dating. Now we are just watching and waiting for him to come back to Seattle and play at a different venue so we can hear more of him.

We have been working hard on the cabin and Phil finished the stairs and has started working on the floor for the bedroom upstairs. The stairs turned out fantastic and it is great to have one of the harder projects done. Not that I did anything on them. Seriously I was good at math in high school and college, but actually applying geometry to building stairs drove me crazy. Phil did it all and did such an amazing job he didn't ever have to scrap things and start over to get the right angle to fit all the stairs in our tiny little space.

I have started priming the room and we will try to frame out the walls for upstairs this weekend. Never a dull moment, but things are coming together and we really hope to have it done before the weather gets nice and we don't want to be working inside.
