Swimming

I am trying to teach Lyla to swim with her life jacket on, but every time I say "kick and paddle" she starts singing "swimming in the water" and goes to float on her back. She loves to be in the water, but she is lazy and just wants me to hold her so she can float. The weather has been BEAUTIFUL this past week and we have had a lot of time in the water. I will be doing swimming lessons with all the kids while we are in Driggs so maybe when we get back everyone will be a little better.

How are you teaching your kids to swim? Were you an instructor at one time or are you just figuring it out on your own. I need to teach my kids, but I can't quite wrap my head around how to do that. It's possible I'm making it way more difficult than it is. lol

My friend told me you count to three, blow in their face (they'll instinctively suck in & hold their breath), then dunk them under the water. I tried it with The Gretch and it totally worked. Also, totally pissed her off. Ha ha, baby, I will instill a healthy fear of water in you!

ha! Apryl, now that we've got the holding-the-breath part down, what other forms of torture do I need to inflict to get my kids actually doing the frontstroke?
