First Day of School

I really can't even believe that I have a kid old enough to be in kindergarten, but Miya started yesterday and will be in full-day school. She was super excited about going yesterday, but once we got to the school she got pretty nervous. Phil and I stayed with her for a few minutes. When I turned to leave she wasn't happy, but I told her that I was too old for kindergarten and that they wouldn't want me to start school all over again. She laughed then hugged me and I left. She talked all the way to the school today and was sad that she wouldn't get to go to the airport to drop grandma and grandpa off, but that you have to go to school even when it isn't the funnest thing to do. She also said that it is important to go so you can learn stuff that other people know, like the type of bush we were walking by.
She was nervous again when we got to the school, but Mrs. Jones, her teacher came and talked to her. She said, "did you tell your mom that you were the best student yesterday in class and that you were the biggest helper at getting all the roses on the bush." Well Miya is pretty competitive and liked being call 'the best' and was ready to be brave and dive right in.

NW Trek

We hit Northwest Trek with my parents and even with all the trips out to Eatonville in the last ten years we never stopped in before. We all had a good time. Cannon loved the river otter, but he swam around so fast we never did get a good picture of him. Miya loved seeing the racoon with her babies on the tram ride. Lyla liked all of the animals, but none of the stroller riding or tram riding. She is really starting to get to be a little stinker. I am not sure she can get any worse for her terrible twos.

Some of the day captured by pictures.They loved how much bigger the grizzlies feet were then a black bear. The bears however, were sleeping and we couldn't get them to wake from their nap no matter how much Lyla screamed.

All the animals were really close as we drove by during the tour part of the park. Cannon loved sitting by grandma and looking at all the large animals.

Lyla liked the river otter too. You can tell from the blur in the water that he was moving really fast.

We had to take Cannon away from the these guys because he was getting some pretty good ideas about play fighting. It involved a lot of teeth and claws.

We could have left Cannon here all day and I don't think he would have noticed us missing. He loved how fast the otter was and all the twisting and flipping he did in the water.

More Aquarium

The octupus was pretty cool. The kids were excited to learn that it changes between white and red depending on it's mood. It was tired and they tried slamming on the glass to get him excited, but it didn't work.
Getting dressed in the scuba gear got a good laugh from the kids.
Cannon wanted a turn. It was really stinky though and had been some pretty used gear.
We went to an arcade on the waterfront just down from the Aquarium so my dad beat me in a game of air hockey.
We are smiling, but we both REALLY wanted to win.

Visitors

My parents have come in from out of town and we spent the day up in Seattle at the Aquarium and the kids thought it was wonderful. We had a really great time seeing all the fish. It was hard to pull Cannon away from each one and he loved telling Grandma about each fish in the tank.

Lyla was pretty happy as long as I was holding her. We had just left her for the weekend with Phil's dad so I think she wasn't sure if I was going to do it again.

Outside watching the sea otters and seals. Today we are off to NW Trek to see how it is. Then Miya starts school tomorrow. She keeps saying, "we have to have a lot of fun today because tomorrow I have to be at school." She is looking forward to school, but it is hard to want to go when Grandma and Grandpa are so much fun.

Windows

Many of you might not recognize what the item is in this picture. Well, to my children it is the only way to roll down the window in the car. Phil and I have never been big on cars and were super excited to get a car and a truck for the price of our first car when Miya was born. We had to laugh the other day when we were driving in Phil's new work car that is a little nicer then anything we normally drive and Miya sat staring at the doors. She finally asked, "so how do you put the windows down?" She was super impressed that Phil could get all the windows in the car down without having to lean back over the seats and manually roll down all of the windows. A whole new world of possibilities seemed to open up to her in just a matter of seconds as she noticed the black button on her door that controlled her window.
