So after the first day of school Miya informed me that they serve a snack at school for everyone. I was guessing that it was a small kindergarten snack. Our conversation went as follows:
Mom- so what did you have for a snack?
Miya- corndogs or salad with a sandwich, juice or milk, an apple and some cookies.
Mom- well I think that was actually school lunch. Did you all eat together in the big lunch room?
Miya- yes.
Mom- well you have to pay for that lunch and we are not paying for it. You bring your own lunch to school and have to get a ticket for the school lunch.
Miya- no you don't my teacher just hands out the tickets and it is free for all the students.
Mom- don't do that any more because you really do have to pay for the lunch and it is $2.25 everyday.
Miya- (just a look of my mom has no idea what she is talking about. It has been like a million years since she went to school)
You can guess how many students in Miya's kindergarten are on the free lunch at school. It is a cute little school and Miya really likes her teacher.

Applesauce
So for the final project with my parent while they were around we decided to get all the apples off our trees and make some applesauce. My mom and I went all over town to find the stuff for canning, but we never found any of it. We decided we better do freezer applesauce because the apples were not going to last.
It was a fun little project last night and the applesauce is awesome. Cannon had some for lunch today and said, "it is only like the best applesauce I have ever had. What are all the dots in it for?" He couldn't understand why we would put cinnimon in it, but he did like the taste.
See how pretty all the different apples make the color change in the sauce.
We did have one injury in the process. My dad cut his finger with the apple slicer. If you find a chunk in your applesauce don't think about his finger...
First Day of School
I really can't even believe that I have a kid old enough to be in kindergarten, but Miya started yesterday and will be in full-day school. She was super excited about going yesterday, but once we got to the school she got pretty nervous. Phil and I stayed with her for a few minutes. When I turned to leave she wasn't happy, but I told her that I was too old for kindergarten and that they wouldn't want me to start school all over again. She laughed then hugged me and I left.
She talked all the way to the school today and was sad that she wouldn't get to go to the airport to drop grandma and grandpa off, but that you have to go to school even when it isn't the funnest thing to do. She also said that it is important to go so you can learn stuff that other people know, like the type of bush we were walking by.
She was nervous again when we got to the school, but Mrs. Jones, her teacher came and talked to her. She said, "did you tell your mom that you were the best student yesterday in class and that you were the biggest helper at getting all the roses on the bush." Well Miya is pretty competitive and liked being call 'the best' and was ready to be brave and dive right in.

NW Trek
We hit Northwest Trek with my parents and even with all the trips out to Eatonville in the last ten years we never stopped in before. We all had a good time. Cannon loved the river otter, but he swam around so fast we never did get a good picture of him. Miya loved seeing the racoon with her babies on the tram ride. Lyla liked all of the animals, but none of the stroller riding or tram riding. She is really starting to get to be a little stinker. I am not sure she can get any worse for her terrible twos.

They loved how much bigger the grizzlies feet were then a black bear. The bears however, were sleeping and we couldn't get them to wake from their nap no matter how much Lyla screamed.

Cannon loved sitting by grandma and looking at all the large animals.
Lyla liked the river otter too. You can tell from the blur in the water that he was moving really fast.
We had to take Cannon away from the these guys because he was getting some pretty good ideas about play fighting. It involved a lot of teeth and claws.

More Aquarium
The octupus was pretty cool. The kids were excited to learn that it changes between white and red depending on it's mood. It was tired and they tried slamming on the glass to get him excited, but it didn't work.
Getting dressed in the scuba gear got a good laugh from the kids.
Cannon wanted a turn. It was really stinky though and had been some pretty used gear.
We went to an arcade on the waterfront just down from the Aquarium so my dad beat me in a game of air hockey.
We are smiling, but we both REALLY wanted to win.
