Perfect Husband in Training

So Cannon LOVES to spray cleaner or scrub anything. I was getting everything out to start scrubbing the bathrooms and he came running to help. He begged to use the scrub brush on the toilet and even wanted to wash the floor once everything else was cleaned off. If only I felt the same way about cleaning!

Flashback

As I was running this morning I had to stop to tie my shoe and a guy passed me. I of course took this as a challenge and started running faster to keep up with him. Yes, it was an uncomfortable distance between the two of us for over a mile as I forced myself to run next to him. (Just some random guy from Dupont) He was not going my regular pace so I was gasping for air trying to keep up. The best part is that I am not even half as competitive as I once was.

This takes me to my flashback I had this morning. I liked a boy that I met in Texas while living with my sister for the summer after my freshman year. We headed back to BYU and I thought I would be interested in getting to know him better. He had the brilliant idea of going running together. He was 6'4", but I was in way better shape because I ran everyday. His stride was two of mine, but I have the bad habit of having to be just a little bit ahead of anyone else I run with. This might be why I run by myself now:) We ran up around the Provo temple and into Rock Canyon and going at speeds I am pretty sure I had saved from competitive track days in high school. Neither one of us could talk for the last half of the run, I had bright red face that I always get working out and guess how many times I saw him after that? One of my roommates said, "and you wonder why you don't get asked out more often?" I guess I can be a little intense.

I am sure the poor guy in Dupont didn't even have a clue how serious our race was this morning...but he might have had a good laugh after he finally turn and got me off his tail.

Fire FHE

Last night Phil decided to build a fire for FHE. We originally thought we would have s'mores, but we had enchiladas for dinner and we all know my kids are not going to finish what I put on their plates. Cannon cleared his plate and again said, "if you would make something I like for dinner I would eat it all."

The kids did love the fire and having FHE outside in February.

We were out so long we didn't make it inside in time for baths so all the kids were worried about smelling like smoke at school today. We had to wash coats and I wondered if it was all worth it, but Cannon let me know today that last night's FHE was the best one we have ever had. He didn't even get a treat this time so it must have been a great enough fire to beat out our normal brownie, cake, ice cream or cookie.
This last picture is just one of Miya's valentine cards she made to take to school. We received a note from her teacher that the cards were not to have treats inside. I let Miya know this, but she swore other kids brought treats (which they did). Once she was done with writing her name on all the cards she asked me where the tape was. I didn't have any idea what she wanted it for but when I checked on her about twenty minutes later I found a few of these valentines with Oreos taped inside. We had a discussion about why she couldn't take these to school, but I had to get a picture. I am pretty sure I am the most uncool mom she has ever known.

Choice

After getting through Young Women New Beginning's I was sitting in a meeting after church and Phil told me that a girl that was investigating the church and had come one week with me to church had died last Saturday night. It was an interesting process to go through emotionally for me because I had only ever met this girl once. How does that play in to how I felt about this girl? I wasn't sure, but I didn't want to cry during the meeting. I made it to the car after the meeting and cried the whole way home.
I cried as I thought about all the beautiful young women I had just been with that all seemed to have these loving families, bright futures, big dreams and the gospel. I cried that I hadn't done more in the past two weeks to reach out to this young girl who had little direction in her life. She was sweet, kind, happy, interesting, young and should have the same future all these other girls hopefully get to experience. What makes us different? What determines what our lives will become and where we end up? One of the values we have in YW is choice and accountability. We make choices everyday, some are small and some change the course of our lives forever. To be a teenager without the gospel I can't even imagine. The value of prayer and the knowledge and perspective of eternity helps me each day to make the right choices. So I guess meeting her only once doesn't really matter because in that one meeting you can see all the possibilities her life holds. You can see that she is a daughter of God and that makes you love her. I pray that something good comes from all of this heartbreak and sadness and that her mother can feel the peace the Savior can give her.

Hair

I got bored the other day and decided to cut some bangs and Phil tried so hard to get a good picture of me to send to my sisters, but this is the best I could do. I CAN'T take good pictures. I remember when we were dating and we were looking through old photos and Phil said, "you used to take cute pictures all of the time." It is true I have not had a good picture of me in years. I get all weird and nervous and pull out a really crazy smile or one of my eyes gets lazy on me.
He did say after I cut my bangs, "you look like Blaire." Okay so Blaire is in my ward and works in YW with me and now I am copying her and want to be just like her...that's okay, RIGHT? She is pretty cool and cute and everything so why can't I try to be like her.
P.S. I am not pregnant even though I look it in this shirt.
